A Seiko mod is a watch built around a genuine Seiko movement, but dressed in parts chosen one by one: case, dial, hands, bezel, strap. It keeps the proven mechanics of a renowned Japanese maker and takes on the look you have chosen for it.
Where does the Seiko mod come from?
The term was born among watch enthusiasts. Seiko movements are known for being robust and easy to service, and many case and dial parts are designed to fit them. Enthusiasts began taking these parts apart, matching them and reassembling them to get watches no catalogue offered. Over the years, the parts have multiplied and become more refined, and the Seiko mod has become a way of designing a watch in its own right.
What stays, what changes
What stays is the movement, the heart of the watch. At Sharp Mod, these are genuine movements: Seiko NH35, NH05, NH34, NH38 and NH70 automatics; Seiko VK63 meca-quartz for the chronographs; Seiko VJ20 and VJ24 quartz; and a Miyota 8285 automatic for the SharpDate.
What changes is everything you see: the case, its bezel and crystal; the dial and its indices; the hands and seconds hand; the caseback, solid or see-through; the strap, in steel, leather or rubber. It is the combination of these parts that gives the watch its character.
How we assemble a Seiko mod
Each watch is hand-assembled in our Paris workshop: fitting the dial and hands to the movement, casing, closing the caseback, adjusting the bracelet. It is then checked and adjusted before shipping. It leaves with its velvet case, an adjustment kit for the bracelet and a microfibre cloth, included free.
Is a Seiko mod a Seiko watch?
Its movement, yes; the watch, no. Sharp Mod is not affiliated with Seiko: our watches are creations of our workshop. They are covered by the 2-year legal warranty, which we provide: in case of a defect, we repair or replace the watch free of charge, with shipping both ways at our expense.
